SYNOPSIS

A humorous, moving, intimate and courageous film following the transformation of an abusive mother and tumultuous mother-daughter relationship to that of acceptance and love as we follow the personal story of the filmmaker.
In My Nose, filmmaker Gayle Kirschenbaum introduces us to her critical mother in a humorous short film about her mom's quest to get her to have a nose job. Barely touching the surface of their most highly complex and charged relationship, (The Washington Post wrote, “if you do [have a mother like Gayle's], get thee to a psychotherapist." Kirschenbaum knew it was time to go deeper. Audience members all over the world related to Gayle’s story and wanted to know the secret. How is she able to accept and even love her mother who is so disapproving of her? The answers are told in a motivational seminar she now gives on transforming difficult relationships.

BACKGROUND
How did we get here in the first place? Why did I end up making a film about my relationship with my mother? It's been a long, ardous journey. Our relationship went from Mommie Dearest to Dear Mom. It took years and a lot of work to get to where we are ...close friends, confidants and travel companions.
But life with mom started out rough. I grew up with a Cinderella complex. I was convinced I was adopted and that was why I was being treated the way I was -- being ordered around, criticized and punished. Quite differently from my two older brothers. According to my mother my nose was too big, my breasts were too small and my hair was too wild. In fact, there wasn't much about me that she thought didn't need fixing. I used to have dreams when I was a little girl that I'd wake up and my hair would be straight. I was sure God punished me by giving me curly, frizzy hair.

CREW
Making a film takes a village. Without the help of many talented people, we could not have made LOOK AT US NOW, MOTHER!
Over the years, we have had teams of dedicated and smart young people who put hours of their time helping in many areas from transcribing to research including production assisting. We are a lucky to have accrued such commitment. On the professional level including camera and sound people, composers, song writers, lawyers, producers, editors, psychologists, printers, and designers who all either jumped in working with us way below their rates or in some cases donating their time and expertise because they believed in what we were doing.
